A Landmark Victory in the Copyright Amendment Bill Debate

We are proud to announce a significant victory in VMCO’s collaboration with the Copyright Coalition South Africa, working to navigate the challenges of the Copyright Amendment Bill. Through our #ActNow campaign, which integrated social media management, stakeholder engagement, and strategic PR initiatives, VMCO played a pivotal role in voicing critical concerns regarding the bill and its implications for South Africa’s creative community.

After the National Assembly passed the bill on February 29th, our team, alongside other stakeholders, intensified advocacy efforts to raise awareness and engage in meaningful discussions within the creative industry. Thanks to these collective efforts, we’re thrilled to share that over the weekend, South Africa’s ruling party publicly committed to advising President Cyril Ramaphosa against signing the bill into law.

This outcome is a testament to VMCO’s dedication to advancing the interests of our stakeholders and the broader creative and cultural sectors. We’re immensely proud of our team’s resilience, strategic approach, and the positive impact they’ve achieved for countless individuals affected by this legislation.

As we celebrate this success, VMCO remains steadfast in championing the rights of the creative industry, continuing our mission to drive meaningful change through strategic advocacy and engagement. Thank you to everyone who supported and contributed to the #ActNow campaign. Together, we are shaping a future where creativity and innovation can thrive.
